Neptune plant marks 35 years in Tallassee

Neptune Technology Group is celebrating its 35th year in Tallassee.

The plant milestone will be celebrated with a big cookout for workers in July, and T-shirts will be given out as well, said Joe Breeding, vice president of human resources.

The company also is marking its 115th year as a manufacturer. Neptune is a leading maker of water meters and advanced meter reading technology.

The company manufactured the new drive-by meter reading devices used by the city of Montgomery to read water meters, Breeding said.

Charlotte Russe coming to Eastdale

Charlotte Russe will open at Eastdale Mall on July 20, something Anna Tadlock has been waiting for a long time.

Tadlock is director of marketing at the mall, and she said the new store, which features a selection of modern clothing and accessories for young women, didn’t just happen to open at the mall.

“This is a retailer that we have been seeking out,” she said. “It is someone our leasing department has been trying to get to enter our market.”

Valley man gets 9 years for porn

A 30-year-old Valley man was sentenced to nine years in prison Friday for possession of child pornography, U.S. attorney Leura Canary announced.

Roger Keith Garner also is facing state charges in the attempted sodomy of a 3-year-old girl.

Garner had admitted possessing almost 90 images of children engaged in sexually explicit activities. The pictures were found on his home computer. Some of the images portrayed sadistic or masochistic conduct, according to a news release from Canary’s office.

2 years after fraud acquittal, Scrushy sentenced to prison

BIRMINGHAM — Richard Scrushy, the rehabilitation king turned TV preacher, is trading his 92-foot yacht for a jailhouse bunk.

The former HealthSouth Corp. chief executive — cleared in a landmark corporate fraud trial in Birmingham but convicted on unrelated federal bribery charges in Montgomery — was sentenced Thursday night to nearly seven years in prison.

Aviva and MDM Bank form Russian bancassurance partnership

General insurance giant Aviva has entered into a bancassurance agreement with Russian retail banking group MDM Bank.

Under the terms of the agreement, Aviva will provide insurance coverage for MDM cardholders, as well as life insurance and savings products as an additional service available to bank customers. The offerings will be available to Russian consumers as of September 1, 2007.
